Defender® Installer of the Month | January | Pest Free Solutions

December 2024 and January 2025 is a huge roll over month for Defender® Installer of the Month Competition and this month’s winner receives our fantastic new trophy for 2025!

The January winners are Pest Free Solutions! They are a Midlands-based company based in Hinkley, Leicestershire however they cover all over the UK. With over 20 years of experience in the sector, they specialise in ethical solutions to bird, pest and wildlife management. As specialists in the bird control world, the team provide bird guano cleaning services, falconry, hawking and of course humane bird deterrents such as using Defender® Bird Spikes. Displacement of birds and pests is the preferred method of control, with the environmental impact always utmost while preparing quotes and solutions. Pest Free work within the commercial sector providing long-term solutions and residential sectors, offering empathy, discretion, high levels of customer service and value, covering all other types of pests from rodents, insects, wasps and bed bugs while also providing wildlife management and habitat creation projects.

The winning install was chosen as a perfect example of how we would always advise how to install Defender® Wide Stainless Steel Bird Spike. The job entailed proofing beams around a car park to stop pigeons defecating onto the vehicles below. Pigeon droppings are acidic and can damage car paintwork if left, not to mention the amount of cleaning the vehicle owners need to do to keep their cars in tip-top condition.

As the ledge depth is over 150 mm, 2 rows of spikes are needed. The first row has been placed perfectly at the front with the outer pins slightly overlapping the edge to stop any birds trying to push against and gain a foothold. The second row is placed next to the back mesh with the central pins slightly overlapping the front row creating an impenetrable mat of spikes that no pigeon can overcome. A textbook perfect install!

Pest Free Solutions is still very much a family run business. Tracey Jackson set up Hygiene Solutions over 25 years ago when she realised there was a gap in the market for suppliers who prioritised reliability. Fast forward 12 years and that same ethos was applied to the Pest Free Solutions arm of the company. The teams have grown and expanded over the years and there is now a fab team of 11 technicians in bird control (not including the resident hawks and falcons!) David Parkes, pictured, is their top bird proofer and clearly very proud to have won our fab Defender® roll-over Installer of the Month!
